Facetiming with Book Club #32. These women are full of smiles and laughter. Loved spending the hour with them! Also, they got press-on henna tattoos for the book club!

Book Club 31 was so much fun! One of the women in the group has traveled to Yemen and brought back these artifacts. The woman in the photo is wearing a traditional headdress known as a gargush! There is also a photo of a Jambiya — the ritual curved scimitar mentioned so often in my book.

Book Club #29 with fabulous henna artist Payal Gupta! This was so much fun!!!!! Payal is an absolutely amazing artist and our book discussion was definitely enriched by her being there. She added her own tidbits about henna practice and lore. Also, I want to add that these women have a beautiful tradition. They keep a book of all their book club reads. One of their members, who is an artist, draws on the page of the book her impressions of the book’s cover. Then everyone else signs the book. Over the ten years they’ve been meeting as a group they have filled many of their own books this way.

Book Club #27 also known as the “I love my girlfriends! Book Club” Thank you Liz Taylor for hosting. Also in this photo is my friend Sharon Rhodes who was the first person to read the very first draft of Henna House. All of these wonderful women have encouraged and supported me along the way. I am lucky to have them in my life.
